What is an emergency will?

An emergency will is a valid will prepared and finalised at short notice for someone who needs to put their affairs in order quickly. Common situations include a sudden hospital admission, an unexpected diagnosis, an upcoming operation, or an urgent need to travel.

The will follows the same legal requirements as any other will: it must be in writing, signed by you, and witnessed by two independent adults. The difference is speed — we act immediately so you are not left waiting.

How our emergency will service works

2. We call you back — a member of staff will normally call you back within the hour to discuss what you need. If it is the middle of the night, you will get a callback at 8am the following morning, including Saturday or Sunday.
3. Draft and review — we take your instructions, draft your will, and talk you through it so you understand exactly what it does.
4. Signing and witnessing — we can visit you at home, in hospital, or anywhere in the Portsmouth area if a face-to-face meeting is needed.
5. Will in your hands — your completed will is placed in your hands within 24 hours, ready for you to witness and sign.
